There's a survey someone has put up called Why Do You Blog? If you take it you can potentially win an iPod Shuffle, although good luck with that, I don't believe that the new ones are visible to the naked eye (cause they're so small! hah! (that was a joke)).
Anyways, you should take it, I guess, or possibly not.
Why do we do this blogging thing? Before I started I thought the whole idea was self-indulgent and egotistical. And, you know, it is that. I mean, who am I to think that anyone would care about my rather ordinary life or what I think on a given subject? So I suppose the short answer is ego.
But I think it's really more complicated then that.
busy_as_can_bee(who pointed me toward the survey) notes that she's found blogging to be a useful tool for meeting new people and sharing ideas. And I think she's onto something - it's the social interaction of blogging that makes it so satisfying. It's like you're part of a conversation that's ongoing between all these different people around the world.
I think 'conversation' is the key word. Blogging is a conversation, or should be. Hopefully it's a conversation that's a little more erudite and on a deeper level than most normal, everyday conversations. If that's the case, then it's hard to say that blogging isn't doing us some good, right?
